Revitalizing Where St. Louis Started
Missouri Main Street Connection, a leading nonprofit organization, selected The Landing for its next community initiative. The nonprofit is dedicated to preserving historic, urban areas all over the state. Through the Main Street America movement and their partners, Missouri Main Street empowers and assists selected communities in revitalizing, developing, and celebrating historic commercial and residential districts. Their goal is to help make The Landing a thriving destination for area residents and tourists.
Years of History
The Main Street Four-Point Approach® to revitalization integrates four main points into a practical downtown management strategy. The local program will produce fundamental improvements on The Landing while preserving its historic commercial buildings and unique history. It will also create a sustainable organization that operates as a revitalization leader in the community.
The Landing’s organization committee is responsible for building leadership within the community through funding and recruiting new committee members. This committee also trains and develops leaders for the community’s revitalization effort.
The economic vitality committee’s job is to recruit new businesses to get involved in the initiative while strengthening existing merchants’ competitiveness. The economic vitality committee also works closely with the design team to seek applicable solutions for historic commercial buildings, ensuring their continued occupancy, maintenance, and preservation.
The Landing’s design committee improves the area’s appearance and fosters historic preservation by enhancing the visual attractiveness of the area. The design committees’ efforts include offering technical assistance and encouragement to building owners toward the restoration and rehabilitation of historic structures, street and alley cleanup, and colorful banners and landscaping.
The promotion committee on The Landing aims to create a positive image of the area and display the district as an ideal gathering place for residents and tourists. Through a series of targeted activities such as special events and festivals, the promotion committee highlights local culture, art, music, dance, and traditions that give The Landing its distinct identity.

Laclede’s Landing committees are composed of community members who guide and perform the work to make The Landing a better neighborhood for residents and tourists. Based on the Main Street Four-Point Approach, organizations on The Landing developed the committees above to revitalize the area, along with a safety and security committee that will provide protection parameters for the district.
